Baard- of snortransplantatie is een permanente oplossing als er weinig of geen haar op je gezicht zit. Een mooie volle baard is voor veel mannen de ultieme vorm van mannelijkheid. Probleem voor sommige mannen is, dat op sommige plekken de baard niet volledig door groeit. De baardharen zijn dan te zwak of te dun. Het hebben van een volle baard is genetisch en hormonaal bepaald. Zo hebben sommige mannen meer haarzakjes dan andere mannen. Wanneer je veel haarzakjes hebt, kun je een dikkere vollere baard krijgen. In de haarzakjes vindt een proces plaats dat bepalend is voor je baardgroei. De aanmaak van androgenen wordt dan weer beïnvloed door twee mannelijke hormonen, namelijk testosteron en dihydrotestosteron.

Testosteron zorgt voor de dikte van de haren en stimuleert de haarzakjes.

Dihydrotestosteron zorgt voor het aantal haarzakjes en de dichtheid van de haarzakjes.

In een haarzakje wordt testosteron omgezet in dihydrotestosteron(mannelijke hormonen). Sommige mannen hebben haarzakjes die minder gevoelig zijn voor DHT en krijgen hierdoor geen nieuwe haren. Dit is overigens ook de reden dat vrouwen geen gezichtsbeharing hebben. Vrouwen hebben namelijk te weinig van deze hormonen in het lichaam om gezichtsbeharing te stimuleren, ondanks het feit dat vrouwen wel haarzakjes in het gezicht hebben.

In het eerste stadium vindt er een consult plaats. De baard- en snorlijn worden afgetekend. Er wordt een bloedtest uitgevoerd en alleen een deel aan de achterkant (donorgebied) van het hoofd wordt haar weggeschoren. In dit stadium wordt gebruik gemaakt van pijnloze lokale anesthesie.

Deze fase omvat het verwijderen van haarzakjes uit het donorgebied. De haarzakjes worden verwijderd met behulp van een micromotor met 0,7 of 0,8 mm ponspunten, en dus wordt het haarzakje met inbegrip van de haarwortel verwijderd. Alleen het relevante haarzakje wordt verwijderd zonder ander weefsel te beschadigen. Eén haarzakje produceert gemiddeld 2,5 tot 3 haarzakjes. Bij baard- of snorimplantatie worden tussen de 100 en 4.000 haarzakjes geïmplanteerd. De verwijderde haarzakjes worden verzameld in een speciale oplossing om de levensduur van de haarzakjes te waarborgen.

Deze fase, namelijk het openen van de kanalen, is in het proces van haartransplantatie het meest wezenlijk. Nadat de lokale anesthesieprocedure is voltooid, zal de gespecialiseerde arts de kanalen openen met de ICE FUE-methode of de saffier-methode, afhankelijk van de dikte en diepte van de haarzakjes.

In deze fase zullen de specialisten de haarzakjes één voor één in de kanalen plaatsen die door de gespecialiseerde arts zijn geopend. Geduld is erg belangrijk tijdens dit proces. Deze fase duurt gemiddeld 6 tot 8 uur, afhankelijk van het aantal haarzakjes. Nadat de transplantatie is voltooid, zorgt de gespecialiseerde arts voor de laatste controles en wordt het gebied waar de haarzakjes worden geplaatst bedekt met een kleine verband. Dit verband wordt de volgende dag verwijderd in de kliniek.
